Regional Assemblies

Citizens Assembly has mapped the country into thirteen regions as was envisaged by the Bomas draft. The rationale of creating the thirteen regions was due to the fact that some areas had similar political, social and economic issues; hence the need to have them in one region so as to discuss and make recommendations on issues that may be unique to them.

Each region has a steering committee composed of Citizens Organizations with objectives similar to the ones of Citizens Assembly. The Steering Committees are made up Citizens Organizations representing youth, women, and persons with disability, religious groups, and business community to ensure inclusivity.

Role of the regional steering committee is to.

  • Identify pertinent social issues
  • Gather information as regards the social issue highlighting the needs of the citizens.
  • Build networks in the regions to push for favorable change as regards social issue identified.
  • The secretariat uses the information gathered to advocate for change at a national level.
